The use of smart foil is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the modern office environment, as it offers a number of benefits that improve both productivity and comfort in the working environment.
Thanks to the special crystal structure of the intelligent film, the transmittance and transparency of the glass can be varied. Its transmittance can be modified, becoming transparent under tension and opaque in its essentially tension free state. The opaque coating, which resembles milk glass, can be changed virtually at the touch of a button, either by switch or remote control. Smart foils are particularly beneficial for those who want privacy without losing the benefits of a glass wall, such as the transmission of natural light or transparency between rooms.
The use of smart foil allows rooms to be quickly transformed, for example, turning an open office space into a space for private conversations and meetings in a matter of seconds.
This technology is not only used indoors in office buildings, but also in private living spaces. It can be applied to almost any glass surface, so it also fully compatible with our self-developed SIMO partitioning systems. In 2024, we installed more than 200 square metres of smart film on our glass walls in offices, meeting and showrooms, as well as in private spaces. The smart foil we use is available in 6 layers, in black and light shades and has a lifetime of more than 80,000 hours when permanently switched on.
Experience has shown that there is a growing demand for smart films with reverse functionality, which, unlike the previous technology, is transparent when de-energised and turns matt under tension. It is likely that manufacturers will come up with this solution in the near future in response to this demand.
